In Palos Verdes, south of Los Angeles, CA in the South Bay, there is a roadside spot that looks down on a windy road. You can get a great shot of trailing lights at night with the San Pedro lights in the background and the ocean to the West.
Make sure to bring a jacket, it gets cold. You’ll need a tripod for support. There’s a small turnoff, called the Scenic Outlook, but follow the location on the map and you’ll see an area to stand, right above where the road gets windy.
Palos Verdes offers tons of other great photo spots along the water as well.
